A burst water pipe flooded nearly 8,000 square feet of Drumright Dental Center, leaving owner Travis Burkett stunned and unsure where to turn.
“I was devastated. I had no idea what to do,” Travis said.
Burggraf Disaster Restoration arrived in the middle of the night, quickly taking control and restoring the practice with minimal disruption to patient care.
“You could tell from the beginning they were very well-organized and they just had a system.”
What happened at Drumright Dental, and how did you discover the issue?
On June 13th, a water pipe connected to one of our hot water tanks broke, dumping water into the practice for about six and a half hours.
Our cleaning lady found it around 11 p.m. Our office is around 12,000 square feet, and I would say about 7,000 to 8,000 feet were affected.
When you learned about the flood, what were you thinking or feeling?
My office manager, who was at a dental conference in Nashville, was trying to get ahold of me, but I was asleep and my phone was off. So she did what you do in a small town: you call the doctor’s mom.
So my mom drove over and banged on my door to wake me up.
I got to the office around midnight, and I was just devastated. I was just at a loss. I had no idea what to do.
How did you connect with Burggraf, and why did you choose them?
My office manager knew the owners of Burggraf and called them before she even reached me. One of their team members contacted me and said they’d be there as soon as they got a truck up and running.
They were just a Godsend.
What was Burggraf’s plan for recovery, and how long did it take?
Burggraf showed up around 2:15 a.m. and immediately told me to go home and come back in the morning.
By the time I got back to the office at 6:30 a.m., they’d already taken care of all the water, set up well over 60 fans and dehumidifiers, and had most of the carpet out.
Burggraf was like a machine, with waves of people coming in all day. They walked me through the process, gave me timelines, and really stuck to everything.
I think we were fully back up and operational by the middle of October.
How did Burggraf minimize disruption to your practice?
The cool thing with Burggraf is we were only down for three days. They worked around us, so we could see patients while they worked. They did an amazing job.
Their team was conscious of our patients and would let us know ahead of time if there was going to be noise, so we could warn patients or reschedule them, if they wanted.
And we didn’t have a single patient that really seemed to mind.
How did Burggraf help you avoid bad outcomes?
I met so many people from Burggraf, and they told me everything would be okay and that they were going to take care of it. And they did.
That put me at ease, because I don’t think anyone is really ready to be woken up in the middle of the night because your office is flooded. There’s not a game plan for that.
Why would you recommend Burggraf to others?
Their response time was second to none—I wasn’t expecting them at 2:15 a.m.
They’re a well-oiled machine, well-organized, and did everything they told me they’re going to do. And they did it in the time they told me.
They were just great to work with, and they took time to answer all our questions.
Their employees were great to work with, always taking time to answer our questions, no matter how small.
Hopefully I never have to go through this again, but if I do, I know who to call.
