The Osage Forest of Peace is an interspiritual retreat center just west of Sand Springs. With an overnight event on the horizon, they went out to do their usual cabin checks before attendees arrived.
Ceiling bowing, insulation peeking through
“The person who was doing the cabin checks sent me a picture of the ceiling that was bowed down, and you could see a little bit of the insulation peeking through,” said David MacDonald, the executive director at the Osage Forest of Peace.
MacDonald’s first call was to the Forest’s nonprofit board. His second call was to Burggraf.
The board said “Call Burggraf.”
“I called the person who was in charge of [overseeing the property]. He had worked with Burggraf before. And so he encouraged me to call and make that appointment.”
Then the ceiling collapsed
Just after they called Burggraf, the ceiling collapsed entirely, dropping Sheetrock and old insulation all over the cabin.
MacDonald attributed the failure to the age of the insulation.
“The cellulose insulation they were using back in the seventies and eighties had gotten really dense and really heavy over time. Humidity and things like that had really seeped in, and we think that’s what caused the ceiling failure.”
Clean up completed in no time
Burggraf soon arrived on the scene to start clean up and restoration.
The cabin with the collapsed ceiling was one half of a duplex, MacDonald decided to replace the ceiling entirely on both sides.
“The crew that came in and cleaned up was done in no time,” MacDonald said. “I think if we had tried to do that on our own or tried to use volunteers, first of all, we wouldn’t have had all the safety equipment and everything. But it would’ve taken us much longer. So that was wonderful.”

Two weeks to an event-ready cabin
Over the next two weeks, Burggraf finished the clean up, rebuilt and repainted the ceiling, and blew in new insulation. The result was a clean, usable cabin once again.
“Literally the day that the workers left after finishing all of the finishing touches, we had guests coming in,” MacDonald said. “So they were able to help us to make sure everything was ready and we got all the equipment back in, all the beds and everything, so that we could have guests that night.”
Easy to work with, friendly, professional
He attributes the project’s success to Burggraf’s knowledge and professionalism.
“They were easy to work with, friendly, very knowledgeable. They had a knowledge of the building materials that were already in there and what to replace it with. And they just had a level of professionalism that I think was really helpful.”
