Pastor Scott Pevehouse of South Lakewood Baptist Church in Tulsa shares how Burggraf helped his church recover and rebuild after water damage required a total facelift of the church, all the way up to the sanctuary doors.
“I would use them again in a heartbeat,” he said.
How did Burggraf help you achieve a successful recovery?
Just being there every step of the way. They weren’t pushy. They would be patient with us trying to gather our thoughts and make decisions.
When we were ready to make those decisions, they were right there, ready to take off with the work.
And if anything new came up, they would text or say, “Hey, come by, we need to show you this or that.”
It wasn’t a company coming in and saying, “Hey, we’re just going to do this and take over” without any say from the other side. That was very reassuring.

[We wondered] who would we call that was capable of a job of this magnitude? This wasn’t just a home repair. This wasn’t just putting up a couple sheets of plywood, sheetrock, or a new paint job.
I mean, we’re talking electrical work. Like I said, things were stripped down to the studs. We’re talking a total facelift of the church, minus the sanctuary all the way up to the sanctuary doors.
And Burggraf said, “Not only do we dry out that kind of work, but we also can help with the reconstruction.”
The way the church is run, they’re never comfortable on one bid. So we had a company come out and bid about reconstruction and asked for the guys at Burggraf to do the same thing and put it on paper.
One thing that I very appreciate that Robert and Bill offered was that any time we needed, they were willing to come and sit with the men of the church and lay it all out. So it wasn’t me trying to take all Burggraf’s information and then give it to them.
So a Wednesday night back before we started the reconstruction, they came in and laid out everything. “Here’s what has been done. Here’s the cost. Here’s what’s going to need to be done. Here’s the estimated costs.”
And really then it was a no-brainer for the church to say, “Hey, they know what was pulled out. They know the destruction. They know what needs to go back in.”
“They also know how much insurance has been allotted, and they know how to save money and make the best use of the funds available.”
So where are you guys at today in the restoration project?
We are almost done. We are waiting for Formica to come in for the countertops. The sinks have been delivered. We’re waiting for the sinks to be put in.
I think there’s a couple of light fixtures that need to be put in in our little kids bathrooms. So it’s just waiting to have workers come back and fix some of the previous things.
So I’m hoping a month and we can be back in the church.
Praise God we have a building that’s separated from our normal church, our regular church building, which has our fellowship hall, our kids room. We turned our teen room into our makeshift offices and sanctuary. Everything is in a brick wall, no windows. I’m ready to get windows and light.
Why would you recommend Burggraf to others?
I think they’ve been up front with everything. That has been very reassuring.
And the time frame. I mean, we called and said, “We’re looking at a river coming out of the church building,” not knowing what to do.
And in 45 minutes, there was a crew on location. They had a crew ready to start the beginning stages of cleanup.
The communication has always been open. Larry and Patrick and Robert and Bill, they would answer my calls, or if they were busy, they would call right back or text.
I would use them again in a heartbeat. Just because I know the communication would be there, and that eases a lot of the unknowns.
How did Burggraf support the church through this process?
We were able to use Burggraf’s box at a Drillers game and everybody that came in thoroughly enjoyed it. You all didn’t have to do that. But it sure did help the church.
And when stuff was going on, there was a Burggraf presence continuously.
Even when it slowed down, like yesterday, I’m leaving and here comes Bill driving in the parking lot, dropping off some things, checking on things.
There’s been a constant presence through this whole process.
I think relationships have been built and established between the church and Burggraf through the process. It’s been a great help and great blessing.
