Sherry and her husband were in the middle of a three-month water damage restoration project with Burggraf when the Tulsa Father’s Day Storm hit. Despite the power outage, a tree on the roof, and the threat of additional water damage, Burggraf was able to complete the project on time.
“Burggraf, and Jason, our project manager, are the only reason we were able to get through it, I mean, they did it all. Jason took care of anything that came up,” she said.
Sherry tells us her story in the interview below.
The Cabinets
Interviewer: To set the scene, you’re staying at a rental house while Burggraf is working on your home after a dishwasher leak caused water damage throughout your kitchen. And then the storm hits. Tell me about that.
Sherry: Our power was out here at the house, but we had power at the rental we were staying at, thank heavens. We came to the house 24 hours after it hit because we knew that our stuff in the freezer needed to be pulled.
The freezer had already leaked onto the garage floor where the kitchen cabinets were being stored. The cardboard under the cabinets was wet and I was just frantic. I thought, that’s it, they’re going to have to replace my cabinets.
Well, we pulled them all out and got them all where they could see them. There was one, only one drawer that had a little damage. They called their wonderful painter, and you cannot tell that there was ever anything wrong.
The Roof
Interviewer: Sounds like you got lucky with the cabinets, but that wasn’t the only problem, was it?
Sherry: With the power out, it was 100 degrees in the house and they were in the middle of doing my floors. Everything was on hold when the neighbor’s tree came down on our roof.
And so Jason had to find a roofer in the midst of that storm – they were here immediately and took care of everything. I mean, everything was so smooth, it was just shocking really.
The Timeline
Interviewer: With the tree falling on your roof, that sounds like quite a setback. Did that delay your project?
Sherry: Even with the storm, we still had this three-month timeline. The insurance company did not want to pay to rent the place we were staying at for longer than the initial three months to complete the restoration project.
And we made it – Jason made it. Exactly three months to the day they moved us back in here, unpacked everything in its place, every little detail.
The Floors
Interviewer: You mentioned the floors. How did those turn out?
Sherry: About a week after we moved back in, we realized there was something wrong with the finish on all our freshly redone hardwood floors. With the storm and the high temperatures and the humidity while the power was out, the finish just wasn’t right – Jason had my back.
Not only did Burggraf make sure it looked like I wanted it to in the end, but Jason was here to move all the furniture out so the flooring people could come in.
The Aftermath
Interviewer: With this project behind you, how’s everything now?
Sherry: It’s about a year later now, and I just found out we have a new leak over our fireplace. It doesn’t have anything to do with before and we expected to pay for the repairs, so of course I called Jason to ask for the phone number of the roofer he used.
Jason says to me, “We’ll take care of it.”
He got in touch with the roofer, they were here already. And Jason said not to worry about a thing, they’re going to take care of it. And after they finish fixing the roof, they’ll get their painter over to touch it up by the fireplace and do whatever we need.
That’s just the kind of guy Jason is. The most important people are your restoration people, and the project manager is the absolute most important person and Jason is the best.
Communication & Service
Interviewer: You mentioned you’ve worked with several contractors in the past. What sets Burggraf apart?
Sherry: We’ve lived in like 30 houses. I’ve had a lot of different experiences with contractors. The things that set Burggraf apart are communication and service.
The communication was amazing. That, to me, was just so astonishing that anytime I called or texted Jason, I heard from him immediately. He took care of everything that came up. He never made me feel difficult or demanding, ever. The respect and kindness he showed us was amazing.
He never left us waiting for weeks. They were always there when they said they would be. And the people they brought in here were the best, the roofer, the painter, the moving company, just everybody, every person they had in there.
I just really think it’s important that people know how happy we are with Burggraf and Jason.
